Taken from old forums

Ok, I just finished the maze and wrote down a guide that I hope will help you. It's very long (only 135 STEPS!) and can get confusing, but I did double check the guide so it should be right. If you can tell me how things go with this guide that would be great.

THIS GUIDE IS FOR THE MAZE in Manhunter 1

So I just made it to Day 2, but when I try to go to any of the new locations I get "Insert disk" messages, either disk 3 or 5 depending on the location. I know I extracted the entire archive; is it perhaps incomplete?

Hi Enchantermon,

I remember fixing this years ago, but it must have crept back up through all the revisions of the site... I've repackaged the game and replaced our download file. I'm hoping this new file will solve the disk issue for this game. Unfortunately I don't really have time to test it out myself, but hopefully you could just download the newly packaged game, load in your save file and see if it does the trick.

No, it's still doing the same thing. I downloaded the game from another website and used my save game files with it and I did not get the "inset disk" message, though. Perhaps the problem lies with the MHVOL.# files; the download I obtained elsewhere does not have the MHVOL.9, .10 or .12 files that yours has, and while it does have the MHVOL.0, .1 and .2 files, they are significantly larger than the ones in your package. Also, their package isn't cracked, and cracking has been known to break games (Gold Rush!, for example), so is it possible that this problem is an artifact of that process?

I think the differences that you are seeing is the difference between the 5.25 floppy disk version and the 3.5 floppy disk version. The files on the site seem to just be bad. I think I even remember how I fixed it originally, which was pulling out my old floppy disks and using the files from those, but at some point I must have mistakenly went back to using the wrong file. When I get some time I'll solve this issue.

Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

Ah, yes, I suppose that's possible as well.
